Kidney Stone may be defined as a painful solid mass in the kidney or urinary system, produced by the solidification or precipitation of a dissolved substance in the urine. Kidney Stones is the development of the stones accompanied with the decrease in urine volume or increase in excretion of stone-forming components eg. Calcium, oxalate, urate, cystine, xanthine, and phosphate. Kidney stones create a big problem when they block the flow of urine through or out of the kidney. When the stones move along the ureter, they cause severe pain. Kidney stones are the accumulation of solid material formed in the tubal system of the kidney.


Symptoms of Kidney Stone

Some of the common symptoms of Kidney Stones are:

  • Sharp, cramping pain in the back and on the sides in the area of kidney or in the lower abdomen.
  • Frequent urination or burning sensation during urination.
  • Fever and chills.
  • Nausea and vomiting.
  • Acute renal colic. The pain typically begins in the kidney area or under it and radiates through the ribs and hipbone until it reaches the bladder.
  • Smelly urine. The patient may even see blood in the urine (hematuria). It is caused when the lining in the ureter or tissue is damaged inside the kidney.

  • Age - more common during middle age.
  • Gender - three times more common in men than in women.
  • Diet - eating a diet high in green vegetables, fat, diary products, salt and brewed tea.
  • A family history of kidney stones.
  • Recurring urinary tract infections.
  • Reduced water intake.
  • Kidney disorders, such as cystic kidney diseases.
  • Metabolic disturbances, such as bowel, endocrine and kidney problems

Home Remedies for Kidney Stones

The most effective home remedies for Kidney Stones are:

  • Apples are useful in kidney stones. In countries where the natural unsweetened cider is a common beverage, cases of stones or calculus are practically absent. The ripe fresh fruit is, however, more valuable.
  • Cut down on foods such as diary products, green leafy vegetables, etc that has high level of calcium.
  • Intake of meat, fish, and poultry should be lessened as they lead to increase in uric acid that forms stones.
  • Grapes have an exceptional diuretic value on account of their high contents of water and potassium salt. The value of this fruit in kidney troubles is enhanced by its low albumin and sodium chloride content. It is an excellent cure for kidney stones.
  • 1 cup of radish leaves juice can be take twice a day.
  • Watermelon, either eaten as fruit or taken as juice is one of the safest and best diuretics.
  • Eat more of fiber, vegetables, whole grains and vegetable proteins.
