Ear Infection

Ear Infection

The medical name of Ear Infection is Otitis externa. An infection happens when germs like bacteria and viruses get inside the body and cause trouble. Germs can get into your ear. Between the middle ear and the throat there is a passage called the Eustachian tube. The portion of the ear that lies just behind the ear drum is called the middle ear. Once in a while fluid builds up in the middle ear and at times this fluid gets infected. The fluid is usually drained out into the throat by the help of Eustachian tubes. So the ear can be infected only when these tubes stop performing their function, if they get blocked for whatever reason.

Adults are not affected by ear infection as frequently as children because in the children Eustachian tubes are very small and less able to keep germs out. The Eustachian tubes get longer and it work better in older kids, but they can still cause problems. The Eustachian tubes can get blocked up due to some reasons such as cold and cough, allergies and let germs get in the middle ear. Then the number of germs can grow inside your middle ear and cause an infection.
