Body odor means malodorousness resulting from a failure to bathe.body odor is the natural smell of someone's body, especially when unpleasant.Also useful to notify friends.Body odour can also be defined as an unpleasant smell on a person's body that is caused by sweat emitted by the body. Body odor results from the presence of bacteria on the body. These bacteria increases when they come in contact with the sweat. body parts affected by body odour are hair, feet, groin, skin, armpits, genitals, pubic hair, belly button and ears.its not only because of sweat that Body odour occurs but there are many other reasons. It is surprising that it is not perspiration that causes  body odor, but the bacteria that gets accumulated on the skin.

 

Bacteria multiply rapidly in the presence of sweat and that is why, people smell more when they perspire.Deodorants only worsen the situation as it contains variety of toxic chemicals, which further aggravate the problem. The problem of body odor can be sorted out by resorting to home remedies. Body odour is also termed as  any smell associated with a person's body.

Young children do not  produce much body odor because the specialised glands in the armpits and genital areas don't become active until puberty. Now at puberty sweat glands develop under the stimulation of hormones and protein. Sweat produced by the apocrine glands, which are located near hair follicles on the scalp, underarms, and groin area, the sweat contains fatty compounds. Bacteria produced by this sweat when it is secreted to the skin´s surface, and the resulting waste products, fatty acids, ammonia, and chemical reactions form a palpable odor which is unique for every woman.

  • Giving off unpleasant smell is the only symptom, which occurs in body odor. This may happen when a person is sweating. When person is very nervous or anxious,that situation results in body odor. Such sweat usually has a foul odor attached to it.
  • Body odor also occurs after a strenuous workout . 
  • When a person is exposed to extremely hot temperatures. The smell varies from individual to individual. Though the smell disappears after bathing, it may come if the person puts on the clothes he was wearing earlier.

  • Body Odor can be caused by many of the factors including,Medicines,alcohol,smoking,prolonged illness, diseases, like kidney problems, liver problems ,stress,skin problems,gastrointestinal problems,weak metabolism,fungal infection,bacterial growth,deficiency of zinc mineral, cavities, toxins,poor hygiene,heredity factors,certain foods and beverages, like hot beverages, spicy foods,menopause,low levels of male hormones,low blood sugar or hypoglycemia,fever,overactive thyroid or hyperthyroidism.
  • Liver or kidney failure, uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, or diabetes, a condition that causes increased blood sugar levels,tooth or oral conditions, such as cavities, periodontal disease, which is disease around a tooth, or gingivitis, which is inflammation of the gums. These are common causes of bad breath,infections, such as a lung abscess or pocket of pus, skin infections, vaginal yeast infections, sexually transmitted diseases, or urinary tract infections. These can cause odor in the area of the infection. For instance, a lung abscess can cause bad breath.
  • Inborn errors of metabolism, such as a group of conditions known as aminoaciduria. These tend to be noticed in childhood.
  • Tumours or cancer, which may cause an odor in the area of the tumor. For instance, tumours of the mouth or stomach may cause bad breath. Cancer of the cervix or uterus may cause a discharge from the vagina that has a certain odor to it.
  • Drugs, toxins, or herbs, such as alcohol, arsenic poisoning, cyanide poisoning, or cigarette smoking
  • Psychological conditions, which may cause a person to think they have a foul body odor when none exists.

Home remedies for body Odor

The most effective Home remedies for Body Odor are:

  • Put a few drops of rose water in the bathtub, before taking bath. It will give you a long lasting freshness and can be used instead of deodorant ;includes in home remedy.
  • To reduce the pH of the skin and eliminate armpit odor, we can use apple cider vinegar instead of deodorant. Put it in a mug of water and use it to rinse the armpits, while bathing; includes home remedy.
  • A direct relationship exists between person diet and his body odor. Avoid refined sugar, white flour, hydrogenated oils and other processed foods.
  • Avoid red meat because it releases many toxins into the blood stream. Avoid foods that lack fiber. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, cumin and garlic.
  • Pour some white vinegar on a cotton ball and wipe your underarms with the cotton. While the vinegar smell would fade in some time, you would remain smell-free for the rest of the day.
  • Mix two drops of the tea tree oil (essential oil) and one ounce of water. Pour this in a spray-top bottle and use as a deodorant. Since tea tree is an antibacterial herb, it would act favorably in preventing body odor.
  • Mix 10 drops of the essential oil in 30 ml water. Apply this mixture on the armpits to reduce body odor.
  • Turnip juice is also effective in removing body odor. Grate a turnip and squeeze the grated pieces to extract the juice. Apply this juice on your underarms.   
  • Herbs such as coriander, licorice, rosemary and a few others also work well for combating body odors. These herbs can be rubbed on armpits to decrease or eliminate body odor. These herbs contain antibacterial properties that inhibit the growth of bacteria in localized areas.
  • A high fibre diet will help clean the walls of the intestines.
  • Cod Liver Oil capsules lubricate the intestines and assist the fibre in cleaning the intestinal walls.
  • Raw mushrooms or mushroom tea will provide relief if the problem is candida.
  • Sage tea helps to minimize how much the body perspires.
  • Cypress, lavender and other essential oils added to bath water may help.
  • Baby wipes may be helpful. Take breaks and use the wipes to clean your underarms. Carry deodorant to use afterwards.
  • Garlic can be secreted through the sweat glands, as can other spicy foods. If a certain food is suspect, remove it from your diet for a time and monitor the results.
  • To prevent body odor, drink a glass of water in the morning, on an empty stomach, along with 500 mg wheat grass. The chlorophyll present in the grass will help in reducing body odor.

Body Odor Treatment and Advice

  • Take showers, at least thrice in a day, in the summer season, when one tends to sweat a lot.
  • If changes in body odor are being caused due to stress or poor nutrition, eating a balanced diet rich in magnesium and zinc can be extremely beneficial.
  • Wheat grass acts as a natural deodorant due to its high chlorophyll content.
  • Practicing stress reduction techniques such as yoga or meditation can also help, as can wearing breathable cotton clothing and bathing regularly. 
  • During summers, you can apply the baby powder or talc to your armpits, in place of deodorants.
